Air fryer bread is a delicious alternative to traditional oven-baked bread. Made with simple ingredients, this homemade bread has a soft and fluffy center with a lightly golden crust, making it a delicious side dish or quick snack.
For this dough, we used a stand mixer to make the preparation easier. The dough is mixed until smooth, allowed to rise, divided into seven portions and shaped into small balls before being placed directly into the air fryer basket.
The bread does not need to be preheated, and it takes only about 12 minutes to bake at 160°C. Since air fryers can vary, the exact cooking time may be slightly different depending on your appliance.
Recipe Tips
- Use warm, not hot, milk when activating the yeast.
- The exact amount of flour or milk may need to be adjusted depending on the type of flour you use.
- Do not preheat the air fryer unless your particular model requires it.
- Air fryer cooking times can vary, so check the bread toward the end of the cooking time.
- Brushing the freshly baked bread with melted butter helps keep the crust soft and adds extra flavor.
Ingredients
Directions
Add the flour and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix to combine.
Add the yeast to 170 ml of warm milk. Stir, then add the mixture to the flour.
Mix the dough, starting on low speed and gradually increasing to medium speed, for 2 minutes.
Increase the speed and mix for another 2–3 minutes, or until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Every type of flour is different, so you may need to add 1–2 additional tablespoons of flour if the dough looks too wet, or 1–2 tablespoons of milk if the dough looks too dry.
Reduce the mixer speed and add 45 g of melted butter. Increase to medium-high speed and mix until the butter is completely incorporated. This will take about 3–5 minutes.
Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours.
Line the bottom of the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Keep in mind that the bottom of the bread will not brown as much.
Divide the dough into 7 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and arrange them in the air fryer basket.
Cover the basket with plastic wrap and let the bread rise for at least another 45 minutes.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of milk. Brush the mixture over the bread.
There is no need to preheat the air fryer. Bake the bread at 160°C (320°F) for about 12 minutes. Keep in mind that this cooking time is based on our air fryer. Air fryers vary, so the cooking time may be different for your appliance.
As soon as you remove the bread from the air fryer, brush it with 20 g of melted butter.
Let the bread rest for 5 minutes to soften, then enjoy your warm, soft homemade bread.
